The story Ceritanya

I understand the gap because I lived through it. Saya mengerti gap-nya karena saya yang menjalaninya.

I grew up in Indonesia. My Mandarin was the kind you pick up from a few weekly classes. Then I left for China, one year of language study followed by a Bachelor's and Master's in Software Engineering, fully in Mandarin, at Xiamen University. What I discovered there changed how I think about education forever. After two semesters of Mandarin, my classmates and I were fluent within a year. In Indonesia, families spend years in lessons and the result is still "Hi. My name is. Thank you." That gap is not about effort. It is about method. Saya tumbuh besar di Indonesia. Mandarin saya tipe yang dipelajari dari beberapa kelas mingguan. Lalu saya berangkat ke China, satu tahun belajar bahasa lalu S1 dan S2 Software Engineering, sepenuhnya dalam bahasa Mandarin, di Xiamen University. Nine years passed. I learned that tutoring Mandarin for exams and tutoring Mandarin as a skill are two different approaches. I saw how a real environment combined with a certified university lecturer can immerse a student and push them to speak, listen, and think in Mandarin. The educators I worked with did not just translate vocabulary. They articulated the language itself. They transferred the logic and the sentence structure underneath. Sembilan tahun berlalu. Saya belajar bahwa mengajar Mandarin untuk ujian dan mengajar Mandarin sebagai kemampuan adalah dua pendekatan yang berbeda. I also learned that information access in China is its own form of privilege. What counts as a good university. Which campus environment suits which student. The character of each university and how locals actually perceive it. Which scholarships exist and how the application processes really work. How realistic and achievable a particular student profile is for a particular top-tier target. How competition shifts from year to year. How to boost a student's profile before application time. How to navigate the appeal process when the first answer is no. None of this is in a brochure. I learned that a student can be academically excellent and still lost. Brilliant on paper, with no idea whether she has a real chance at the university she wants. Saya juga belajar bahwa akses informasi pendidikan di China adalah bentuk privilege tersendiri. After China, I worked for almost two years in Indonesia, between Jakarta and Bandung, before moving to Singapore in 2018. I joined the Singapore Tourism Board as a civil servant. I worked on the country's first Geospatial AR pilot with Google, which won the MTI Firefly Award Silver in 2025. I worked on projects with Gardens by the Bay, Niantic, Science Centre, and many more. In 2025, I went back to school and completed the FlexiMasters in Technopreneurship and Innovation at NTU Singapore. Different country. Different system. Different mindset. What I saw in Singapore was the part Indonesia rarely gets to see. Structure. Strict standards. Time is money. Long-term planning. Result-driven thinking. Efficiency. A culture that does not tolerate vague. Setelah China, saya bekerja hampir dua tahun di Indonesia, antara Jakarta dan Bandung, sebelum pindah ke Singapura tahun 2018. Bergabung dengan Singapore Tourism Board sebagai pegawai pemerintah. Saya ikut membangun pilot Geospatial AR pertama negara ini bersama Google, yang memenangkan MTI Firefly Award Silver 2025. I built Mandarin Mastery Circle with Serena Yang Laoshi for one reason. To bring all three systems together, so that Indonesian families can plan their child's Mandarin and education path the way Singaporean families plan theirs. With strategy. With data. With honest answers. Even when the honest answer is "this is not the right time for you yet." I have refused commissions from universities. We do this on purpose, because we want a student-focused consultation, not a sales channel. That is where we stand. That is what we are building. What I believe Yang saya percayai

A different kind of education planning. One that begins with honesty. Pendidikan yang direncanakan berbeda. Dimulai dari kejujuran.

These are the operating principles behind everything I build. They are also the reason some families do not work with me. And the reason the ones who do, stay. Education should not be driven by fear or commission. Pendidikan tidak boleh digerakkan oleh rasa takut atau komisi.

I have refused seven university referral partnerships. If MMC is not the right fit for your child, I will say so. And refer you to who is. My recommendations are paid for by you, not by the universities I send your child to. Saya menolak tujuh kemitraan referral universitas. Kalau MMC bukan jawaban untuk anak Anda, saya akan bilang. Mandarin learning is structured, not random. Belajar Mandarin itu terstruktur, bukan acak.

There is a difference between "we'll figure it out as we go" and "here is your roadmap to HSK 5, with milestones at month 3, 6, and 9, and what happens if you miss them." Families deserve the second kind. Ada perbedaan antara "nanti kita atur sambil jalan" dan "ini roadmap Anda ke HSK 5, dengan milestone di bulan ke-3, ke-6, ke-9, dan apa yang terjadi kalau meleset." A good teacher is more than a native speaker. Guru yang baik lebih dari sekadar penutur asli.

Speaking Mandarin natively does not make someone qualified to teach a non-native child. Every educator in my ecosystem holds a Bachelor's and Master's in Teaching Chinese as an International Language (TCIL). That is the floor, not the ceiling. Singapore Math is thinking, not drilling. Singapore Math itu berpikir, bukan drilling.

This is why Math Mastery Circle exists, built with Jason Lee, Singapore Math lecturer and ASEAN Scholar. Children who memorise tricks pass next week's worksheet and fail next year's exam. Children trained on the LEAP framework, model drawing, heuristics, and word problem decoding, build a brain system that compounds over years. The same standard applies to Mandarin and to Math. Inilah alasan Math Mastery Circle dibangun, bersama Jason Lee, dosen Singapore Math dan ASEAN Scholar. Anak yang menghafal trik lulus worksheet minggu depan dan gagal ujian tahun depan. Students need roadmaps, not vague encouragement. Siswa butuh roadmap, bukan dorongan vague.

"You can do it!" is not a study plan. Every family who books a paid consultation receives a written diagnostic and a written roadmap PDF. Usually five to eight pages. Sign up with me, or sign up elsewhere. Either way, you have something concrete to evaluate your child's progress against. "Kamu pasti bisa!" bukan rencana belajar. Setiap keluarga yang booking konsultasi berbayar terima diagnostik tertulis dan roadmap PDF. Biasanya 5-8 halaman. Daftar di MMC, atau di tempat lain. Yang penting, Anda punya sesuatu yang konkret untuk mengukur progress anak.

Families deserve honest guidance before they spend years and money. Keluarga berhak dapat panduan jujur sebelum menghabiskan waktu dan uang bertahun-tahun.

If your child is not ready, I will tell you. If a programme being advertised online is unrealistic for your timeline, I will tell you. If a "guaranteed scholarship" feels too good, I will explain the math. The honest answer comes before the invoice. Kalau anak Anda belum siap, akan saya bilang. Kalau program yang diiklankan online tidak realistis untuk timeline Anda, akan saya bilang. Kalau "scholarship dijamin" terdengar terlalu bagus, saya akan jelaskan matematikanya. Quality education opens doors. Confusion closes them. Pendidikan berkualitas membuka pintu. Kebingungan menutupnya.

Indonesian families lose years to confusion. About HSK levels, about whether China or Singapore makes sense, about what teachers to trust. The cost of confusion is the years lost, not the fees paid. My job is to compress confusion into clarity, fast. Keluarga Indonesia kehilangan bertahun-tahun karena kebingungan. Tentang HSK, tentang apakah China atau Singapura yang masuk akal, tentang guru mana yang bisa dipercaya. Biaya kebingungan adalah tahun yang hilang, bukan biaya kelas. I am not a consultant you can hire for everything. These are the lines I do not cross. And the lines I will not let any educator in my ecosystem cross either. I do not hire fresh graduates to teach classes of hundreds of children without mentorship. Acceptance rate for educators in my ecosystem: four out of every hundred applicants. I do not claim a China university degree based on a short course certificate, and I will not tolerate educators in my network who do. Growing up in Indonesia, I learned that being good at math meant being fast at calculation. Tumbuh besar di Indonesia, saya belajar bahwa pinter Math berarti cepat menghitung.
