Year minus five: foundation
Identify the broad direction. Engineering, sciences, business, humanities. Not the specific program yet.
Begin language work. Twenty minutes of Mandarin or English exposure per day. Habit, not pressure.
Year minus four: depth
Pick one topic to go deep on. A subject the child actually likes, not the one the parents prefer.
Start the paper trail. Competitions, projects, sustained writing. One thing per year that has a name and a date.
Year minus three: HSK or English certification
First major language milestone. HSK 4 for China path, toefl-for-applications.html">IELTS 6 for Singapore path.
If the child is behind here, the rest of the timeline shifts. Honest assessment is more useful than optimism.
Year minus two: program selection and prep
Specific universities. Specific programs. Specific entry criteria.
Begin narrative work. First draft of essays. First round of recommendation letter conversations with teachers.
Year minus one: execute and refine
HSK 5 or HSK 6 if China. SAT or A levels if applicable. Final narrative iterations.
Submit applications. Interview prep. Wait.
Five years is a long time to a parent. Five years is a short time to a real preparation. Start now if you mean it.
Tahun minus lima: fondasi
Identifikasi arah yang luas. Teknik, sains, bisnis, humaniora. Belum program spesifik.
Mulai kerja bahasa. Dua puluh menit paparan Mandarin atau Inggris per hari. Kebiasaan, bukan tekanan.
Tahun minus empat: kedalaman
Pilih satu topik untuk diperdalam. Subjek yang anak benar-benar suka, bukan yang orang tua sukai.
Mulai jejak dokumen. Kompetisi, proyek, tulisan berkelanjutan. Satu hal per tahun yang punya nama dan tanggal.
Tahun minus tiga: HSK atau sertifikasi Inggris
Tonggak bahasa utama pertama. HSK 4 untuk jalur China, IELTS 6 untuk jalur Singapura.
Jika anak tertinggal di sini, sisa timeline bergeser. Asesmen yang jujur lebih berguna daripada optimisme.

Because we watched too many Indonesian students with real potential get steered by agents working on commission, by consultants with no track record, by schools selling brand promises they could not back. MMC exists to be the room where families get an honest read before they spend the money.
